Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the needs for Program Outcome(PO) of nursing students, and to provide the information that is helpful for improving nursing education curriculum so that the PO may be achieved.
Methods: The subjects are as follows: firstly to find out the needs and present ability for the PO of nursing students, and secondly to evaluate the educational need for each factor of PO of nursing students. The recruited participants were the entire students of the nursing department from 1st to 4th school year. The information about research purpose, method, application of result was given to participants by researcher and participants agreed. A self-administered field survey method was used to gather data. The total number of distributed questionnaires was 452 and 452 of them were
collected(100%).
Results: The score of need for the PO was 4.1, and the score of present ability was 2.7, specifically, the highest score of need was PO2 and the lowest score of present ability was PO11. The average score of educational need for thirteen POs was 5.4. The highest score of educational need was PO2, whereas the lowest one was PO7.
Conclusion: There is no significant difference between male and female on score of need, present ability and educational need for POs. And score of need is higher
than score of present ability. So in nursing educational curriculum, more emphasis need to strengthen
about PO of high demands.
